2000 Hot Rum Series The Hot Rum Races were our first chance to test out CIA in real race conditions. Tom Hirsh of Harbor Sailboats assembled a crew for our maiden races and owners Peter and Russ got their feet wet for the first time racing. While our performance left something to be desired as we were left in the dust by most of the other boats. The experience was worthwhile and we learned a lot about our new boat. Below are scenes from the third Hot Rum race on December 3, 2000.
Tom directs crew and discusses tactics and chute is raised for first leg downwind. We begin in pursuit of the other boats.
Valiant efforts are made by the crew but we are troubled by kelp and have no kelp stick. We're unable to pick up ground on the boats ahead after the first rounding.
Stars and Stripes blows past us as we continue to fight with kelp. Tom gathers crew as we prepare to throw in the towel.
